Join us for our
Fall Kickoff Meeting on Sunday, September 27th, 2026 from 11:30am to 2:00pm at the
Blackridge Civic Association Clubhouse in Churchill.
Our speaker will be
Jaime Martinez. Jaime is the founder and Executive Director of
Frontline Dignity (
frontlinedignity.org), a Pittsburgh-based organization mobilizing communities to respond to immigration enforcement and stand alongside immigrant families.
"The Defense of Dignity: Immigration, Community, and Democracy in This Moment"
At a moment of intensified immigration enforcement and profound questions about who belongs, Jaime Martinez reflects on what our response to the treatment of immigrant communities reveals about the health of American democracy. Drawing from Frontline Dignity’s work mobilizing ordinary people across Western Pennsylvania, the keynote explores what happens when neighbors choose not to look away—and how civic participation, , community solidarity, and the defense of human dignity can become powerful democratic acts. Ultimately, it asks us to consider a fundamental question of this moment: what do we owe one another when the dignity of our neighbors is at stake?
Our LWVPGH board members and committee chairs will be in attendance to meet you and answer your questions about their portfolios and volunteer opportunities.
We hope you’ll find some interesting and important contact and ideas, especially from among our Advocacy, Civic Education, and Voter Service committees. We’ll also have leaders from other areas of the League.
There will be something for everyone, and all are welcome.
Judy Diorio will be coordinating attendance, carpooling, and brunchy bites. Please contact her at membership@lwvpgh.org by Monday, September 21 if you plan to attend; if you need, or can offer, a ride; if you would like to help, or if you have questions. You can also simply register below.
There is no charge for attendance, but we will be happy to accept donations to help defray the cost of refreshments.
