Civic Education in the Community

Our mission is to foster more active and informed citizens by providing nonpartisan, reliable resources and educational opportunities that advance the understanding of our representative government, elections, and voting.

Our COVID Story -- A Digital Shift

Our Civic Education in Schools team started the year strong, with plans for a full schedule of in-person high school classroom presentations and voter registration drives. During our 2020 in-person high school visits, we presented to 600 students and received 490 registrations with the help of our dedicated presenters and committed volunteers. We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and teachers about our program!

When the schools shut down in March, we joined the rest of the educational community in learning to shift our efforts to the internet. The result was not just a team of volunteers ready to "Zoom" into virtual classrooms with a live, digital presentation, but also an expanding library of web-ready educational materials and infographics.

Printed Voter Materials

During the 2020 election season, we shared these trusted resources with broad coalitions of community partners. In response to COVID and the lack of reliable technology for many, our team created grant-funded, printed voter materials for over 2000 individuals, including Pittsburgh Public high school students. Additional voter registrations have resulted through this initiative.

Civics IQ

We will continue our community outreach efforts, sharing our voter materials with our community partners, with school contacts, and with our League members to foster a deeper understanding of our democracy and to encourage voter empowerment and civic engagement.
